Here are several of my family's favorite holiday cookie recipes.
I use a good-quality powdered ginger for the ginger snaps, and they
come out quite snappy.

Melt-Away Cookies

1 cup butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups Soft-a-Silk cake flour
3/4 cup walnut meal
Mix butter, sugar, and vanilla; then add flour, then walnut meal. Roll
into small balls and bake 6-8 minutes at 400F. While still warm, roll
in powdered sugar.

Ginger Snaps

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 1/2 c shortening
2 c sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c molasses
4 tsp baking soda
4 c flour
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ginger
2 Tbsp orange peel -- grated
Mix, then chill for 1-24 hours. Roll in balls. Dunk in a mixture of
cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 350F.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2/3 cup butter -- or margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs -- well beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
glace cherries
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in eggs; add vanilla.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into creamed mixture.
Mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoons onto greased baking sheet. Put half
a cherry on top of each "button". Bake 8-10 minutes at 425F.
